Tractor Specifications
David Brown & Sons (Huddersfield) Ltd, founded in 1860, initially focused on producing wooden gear patterns for the textile industry before entering the tractor market in 1936 through a partnership with Harry Ferguson. Though the partnership dissolved, David Brown continued to produce its own tractors, eventually becoming a subsidiary of Tenneco and operating under the Case name from 1983 until the closure of the Meltham factory in 1988.
David Brown & Sons began as a manufacturer of gears in Huddersfield, England, founded in 1860 by patternmaker David Brown. In 1936, the company partnered with Harry Ferguson to produce the Ferguson-Brown Tractor, manufacturing 1350 units before the partnership ended. The first tractor entirely designed by David Brown, the VAK1, debuted in 1939 but saw limited production due to World War II. Post-war, the company resumed full tractor production. In 1972, David Brown Tractors became a subsidiary of Tenneco and was integrated into the JI Case division. By 1983, tractors were produced under the Case name, and the historic Meltham factory, the heart of David Brown tractor production, was closed in 1988.
